COLUMBIA, Md. – May 31, 2017— EventTracker, a leader in security information and event management (SIEM), today announced that CEO A. N. Ananth will present on the importance of honeynet deception technology in protecting credit unions against the modern cyberthreat landscape at the Credit Union InfoSecurity Conference, June 14-16, San Diego.

Like many businesses, credit unions incur steep losses in reestablishing member safety following a data breach, whether online or otherwise. On average, credit unions in 2014 spent $136,000 on data security measures and $226,000 in costs associated with merchant data breaches, according to the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions.

A honeynet is a collection of honeypots – virtualized decoys that mimic desktops, servers, printers and other network technology – set up to invite attack to study threat actors’ behavior. These decoy networks can help defray this cost – and number of data breaches—by providing valuable intelligence about malicious activity being brought against a credit union’s network.

Given the thousands of cyberattacks on computer networks worldwide every year, this capability has become an ever more salient weapon in defending against threats. In 2016 alone, networks experienced 1,935 breaches and 42,068 security incidents, according to the 2017 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report.

Ananth’s presentation, “Honeynets – A Great Tool in Your Arsenal,” will explore how honeynets work and best practices for implementing them to protect networks from attacks. The session will also highlight many security experts’ belief that properly deployed honeynets deliver enormous value for a small amount of up-front effort.

Ananth will join fellow information security experts and credit union decision makers at this boutique conference for two days of insightful industry conversation on protecting credit union assets—and their valued members’ data. See the full details on his session below.
