Netsurion, a leading provider of remotely-managed data and network security services for multi-location businesses, today announced the appointment of cybersecurity industry veteran and evangelist John Christly as chief information security officer (CISO). Joining the growing executive team at the company’s new Fort Lauderdale HQ, Christly will lead Netsurion’s internal security efforts and operations.

Christly brings a wealth of operational, project and program management experience in the cybersecurity space to the Netsurion team, most recently serving as the CISO and HIPAA security officer for Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Prior to this role, Christly was the co-founder and CEO for OMC Systems, a Florida-based cybersecurity advisory firm, and the IT security and HIPAA security officer for multi-hospital Memorial Healthcare System. He also served as the chief security officer (CSO) for eTERA Consulting, a forensics and eDiscovery firm in Washington, D.C.

In these positions, he successfully aligned technology investments to streamline operations, secure corporate assets, reduce operating costs, grow sales and develop the business.

Also a highly accomplished author, Christly’s articles have appeared in publications such as Security Magazine, Executive Insight Magazine, 24/7 Magazine, and the ISSA Journal. He is also a frequent speaker at regional and national healthcare and security events.

“With cybercriminals aggressively and consistently targeting companies of all sizes, there is no region, industry or organization that is free from hacking risks. We’re in the business of securing businesses— so even those that lack internal IT resources or large budgets can access and benefit from enterprise-strength security and compliance,” said Kevin Watson, CEO of Netsurion. “John will add immense value in the execution of this mission, helping us to remain as secure and protected as the companies we serve. We’re very lucky to have found someone of his caliber to fulfill this role.”

“Coming from such a strong security and compliance background, I was drawn to the way Netsurion is making these normally daunting tasks so easy for all types of businesses,” said Christly. “Its managed security services give organizations peace of mind that their company and customer data remain protected and that they are always HIPAA and/or PCI compliant, so they can focus on what matters most—providing excellent service and experiences to their clientele. I look forward to helping Netsurion maintain that same, unwavering confidence in its own security practices.”

As part of its ongoing growth initiative, Netsurion also announced the additions of Mark Cornwell, former chief technology officer (CTO) at Swiss Watch International , as chief information officer (CIO) and Rene Gonzalez, previous head of finance at Woot, Inc., an Amazon.com subsidiary, as chief financial officer (CFO) earlier this year.
